Bali Tour Itinerary*:

Day 1 - Arrival in Ubud

Welcome to the Island of the Gods!

Upon arrival to Bali head to Goldenbird lounge where a driver will be waiting to whisk you from the chaotic airport to peace and tranquillity at the Svargo Loka wellness retreat that sits on what was once land belonging to the King of Ubud and still regarded as a spiritual location.

Ubud is the hub of Bali’s thriving arts culture. Here you can wander around art galleries, boutique shops or enjoy a fresh juice or a gelato. Meet your group leader at 6 pm for a welcome briefing and get to know your fellow voyageurs before heading out to Nusantara, a traditional Balinese restaurant where you’ll enjoy a delicious feast that showcases the very best of Indonesian cuisine.

Day 2 - Ubud

This morning we embark on a culinary adventure to unlock the secrets of some authentic Balinese dishes.  We start our day at the local market to pick up our ingredients choosing from herbs, spices, crisp vegetables and take it back to our chef Arie’s home for our private cooking class.

After feasting on our delicious food we make our way to Batubulan Village to experience ‘Mepantigan’, Balinese mud wrestling. Once clothed in our traditional sarongs, we’ll practice some warming up exercises, learn some simple techniques similar to martial arts before the fun starts and we’re covered in mud!  Mepantigan is a fascinating experience which is part martial arts, part drama, part contemporary dance fused with performance fighting with a spiritual element to it.  After we’re washed and dried off, we can sit down to sample some traditional Balinese food.

Day 3 - Bangli

After a leisurely breakfast, we set saddle to explore some of the villages outside Ubud on our 2 wheels. Passing through rice fields, fruit orchards, temples, and local villages, we make a stop at a local Balinese house to learn about the unique style of Balinese architecture.

After lunch, we visit Tirta Empul temple located on a holy mountain spring that feeds a series of purification pools. This is an important site for Balinese people, and where they come for purification. Our guide will help any of us who feel the need to be purified!

Leaving the city behind, we head to our next hotel, De Umah Bali located in Bangli a real Balinese compound that implements the traditional architecture called ‘Asta Kosala Kosali’ or ‘Asta Bumi’, a Balinese feng Shui.  Each building is built on a precise location in accordance with the spiritual meaning of the place using the step of the owner as a base measurement for its proportions to incorporate his spirit in the building itself.  Take time to freshen up before we meet our yoga and meditation guru who will explain a bit about the history and benefits of meditation and then take us through our own guided Meditation.  After a delicious dinner, the evening is free for you to relax or explore the surrounding area.

After breakfast we take a walk through the local village, passing by the rice fields, and the coffee plantations until we reach beautiful Tangkup waterfall.  Take a natural shower before enjoying relaxing picnic lunch because tonight things a hotting up as we take part in an Agni Hotra fire healing ceremony.

Agni Hotra is an ancient fire ceremony originating from the sacred Vedic Hindu texts. Agni refers to fire and Hotra means, healing. This healing fire ceremony is considered one of the highest Vedic rituals. Specially trained priests make offerings of ghee and grains into the fire while reciting Sanskrit mantras to invoke blessings of health and abundance.  By the end of the evening you should feel both healed and energised.

Our final stop today is a beach known locally as Virgin beach –A beautiful stretch of  long white beach around an attractive turquoise cove. There’s a lot of local ‘warungs’ – restaurants where we can pull up a sun-lounger and enjoy our local lunch of mixed rice wrapped in banana leaves washed down with an ice cold beer and a dip in the ocean.

After we head to Candidasa, our next stop, and the evening is free to enjoy.

This is very much a spiritual climb and you will see dozens of locals making the climb in sandals, traditional clothes and carrying offerings.

Day 8 - Amed/Cangu

Nestled on the coast, surrounded by lush green mountains is a place called Amed. Its most famous for its excellent diving amongst the beautiful coral reefs and of course a few shipwrecks, namely the second world war US Liberty.   Today we explore the underworld and don’t worry if you’ve never snorkelled before because our expert guide will ensure you fully understand how to use the equipment and will be in the water with you.  There’s some absolutely amazing coral and sea life to be seen, you’ll be sooo glad you experienced this as words can’t simply describe it!

In the afternoon we head back to the west coast of Bali, to Canggu, an area famous for its surfing spots, hip bars and restaurants.

Day 9 - Cangu

After breakfast, if we can tear ourselves away,  we walk to a local spa to be pampered with a 60 minute rejuvenating or relaxing massage…bliss!

Relaxed and rejuvenated, we head to the house of a local Balinese Priest.  Female priests are quite rare in Bali, so a meeting with this extraordinary lady will be a very special treat!

After dressing in traditional sarong we share some local dishes for lunch and then go to the temple to make some offerings.

Back at the hotel for our last swim in the pool or relax on a sun lounger before we head out for our last evening starting with a sunset cocktail by the beach and then to Mama Canggu, a local Balanese restaurant with beautiful views overlooking Canggu.

Unfortunately it’s then off to the airport feeling rejuvenated after your spiritual journey around the Island of the Gods.
