It shares a border with Thailand, connected by a causeway and a bridge to the island state of Singapore, and has coastlines on the South China Sea, the Straits of Malacca and Indonesia.

Malaysia + Borneo Tour Itinerary*:
Day 1 - Kuala Lumpur
Malaysia’s effervescent capital dates back to 1857, when a small mining town grew into a booming city during the Industrial Revolution, attracting Malays from nearby villages, British businessmen, Chinese labourers and Indian immigrants, Kuala Lumpur grew into the exotic melting pot that you see today.
Early evening we head out into this vibrant city for an orientation walk followed by drinks in the Skybar which has amazing views of the Petronas Twin Towers and then to a traditional Malay restaurant for dinner…our adventure officially begins!

Day 2 - Kuala Lumpur
Chinatown is next, where we feast on spicy noodles with lime juice and amazing Chinese pancakes and finish at an old-school coffee shop, for kaya, toast and coconut jam.
The rest of the afternoon is free time to explore KL. Walk around the banyan tree-lined streets, try your haggling skills at the handicraft market, explore the one of the ornate temples or visit the Petronas Towers you saw in the distance last night, so many choices, but you could also just relax in the glory of your hotel.

Day 3 - Malacca
Check in your hotel, freshen up and this afternoon, head out for a cruise along the Malacca River, once nicknamed as the ‘Venice of the East’ as it was a prominent port of entry for traders from Europe and Asia during the late 16th century.
We’ll see a mixture of things from beautiful ancient bridges, colonial buildings to antiquated shophouses and local colourful street art next to Jonker Street which is our next stop.

Day 4 - Malacca
We get a taste of old Melaka, learn about the ancient spice trade, take in the sites of Harmony Street, (its official name is Jalan Tukang Emas) a street where Temples and Mosques of the three main religions of Malaysia are located peacefully in the same small street. We whiz past Chineese Buddhist Temples, the picturesque Dutch Square and a traditional Muslim house museum.
The rest of the day is for you to explore the town, at leisure, relax in the hotel or find a cafe to sit and chat with your Voyage girlfriends.

Day 5 - Sandakan
On arrival, we meet our driver who will take us to our hotel located at the heart of Sandakan town overlooking Sandakan Bay. The sunsets here are spectacular, a definitely a photo moment!
Freshen up, enjoy a welcome drink and we head for a delicious dinner in the hotel restaurant.

Day 6 - Sandakan
Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre, is next, with over 44 rescued Malayan sun bears, and the world’s smallest bear, a species unfortunately under threat from poaching and deforestation.
After lunch, we go back to Sepilok for the second feeding, just because its so wonderful to watch, before we take a canopy walk across the lush tropical rainforests with its magnificent views and being home to over 250 different species of birds, it’s a wonder to watch and listen.

Day 7 - Kinabatangan
Cruising through the wet water swamps and mangrove forests, with only the sounds of the native birds and animals to be heard, it’s such a thrilling yet calming moment. We arrive at the Wetlands Resort, our home for the next 2 nights in time for lunch.
Late afternoon we board our second cruise of the day in search of Proboscis Monkeys, birds, reptiles and other wildlife. As the sunsets we get to witness the glittering display of fireflies on the mangrove trees which is absolutely beautiful.
After a delicious dinner, we head out on a guided night walk, watching the wildlife as they come out to play unaware that anyone’s watching, an incredible experience to see.

Day 8 - Kinabatangan
Eating our picnic breakfast, we continue to the local fishing village, Kampung Abai and observe the daily activities of the local Orang Sungai tribe in their tiny fishing village.
After lunch, we have some free time to enjoy the unique forest reserve before taking another cruise to watch the natural undisturbed life in the jungle and hopefully getting to spot some wild orangutang and silver leaf monkeys.

Day 9 - Kota Kinabalu
Our private transfer takes us to the airport for our flight to Kota Kinabalu, known as the Nature Resort capital of Sabah. This charming coastal city lies by the coast overlooking the South China Sea and the Crocker Range where the Mount Kinabalu stands majestically.
Our private transfer will be waiting at the airport to take us to our last hotel where the rest of the day is free to spend relaxing or exploring.

Day 10 - Kota Kinabalu
Our guide will point out the many and unique varieties of bird life, wild boar, monitor lizards and possibly some macaque monkeys.
Heading to Padang Point we take to the skies and experience the longest inter island zip line in the world. After our briefing we’ll get into our harness and get ready to zip across the sea to Sapi island…Exhilarating!
After lunch the rest of the day is for relaxing on the beach, swimming in the sea or snorkelling around the marine park admiring the beautiful coloured coral, bright tropical fish and if you are lucky, turtles.
Early evening we return to enjoy your last evening in this magical country.

Day 11 - Departure
What an adventure it’s been from the skyscrapers and banyan tree-lined streets of Kuala Lumpur, the Trishaw adventures of Malacca, Borneos Orangutang’s, bears and monkeys to the rainforests of Kota Kinabalu.
