Day 1 - Bel Ombre

Our amazing adventure begins as soon as we land in Mauritius. Our private transfer will be waiting to whisk us to our hotel on the south coast of the island just steps away from the gorgeous golden beach.

On arrival we will be greeted by our amazing host Véronique who was born and raised in the neighboring island of Rodrigues and initially came to Mauritius to pursue her studies and then stayed…I’m sure we’ll see why!   One thing, she knows is the island inside and out which is perfect as we can always count on her to tell us where all the unique and hidden treasures are!

This evening we are joined by Romina, co-owner of Mauritius Conscious who I have partnered with for this amazing trip, and she will not only join us for a delicious welcome meal but give us an inside guide to this fabulous island.

An early start but so worth it as we discover the secret corners of theTamarin River at sunrise on a relaxing and peaceful river cruise on our standing paddles. Natasha is a SUP instructor and created the business together with her Husband Julien. Passionate about stand up paddling, outdoor activities and active sports, they created SUP business for the west coast of Mauritius. Today it has evolved into an eco-responsible venture so as to have a positive impact on the people and the environment they explore. During our explorations with Natasha, we can also contribute to a greener Mauritius with the Go Clean Challenge – which is of course is optional .

Late morning we travel to the National Park and Ganga Talao, a crater lake situated in a secluded mountain area deep in the heart of Mauritius and about 1800 feet above sea level. Day 6 - Pointe aux Cannoniers

After breakfast, we head to the north of the island to our luxury boutique hotel situated on one of Mauritius’s most serene and peaceful beaches between Pointe aux Cannoniers and Mont Choisy and walking distance from art galleries to ethnic boutiques and street-food sellers. (The mesmerizing sunsets from the pool bar are definitely not to be missed!)

After checking in we can take a stroll into the town and meet Priya, owner of Imiloa, a unique shop offering a space for artisans from disadvantaged backgrounds to showcase their handmade products.

After converting a 100-year old building into the first pop-up store in Mauritius in 2012, the phenomenal response convinced Priya that her vision for Imiloa could be taken to the next level.

Now, seven years after the first version, her store has returned with a permanent home at Trianon Shopping Park, selling a range of personally selected clothing and accessory items from across India and Asia. It’s the first time a shop in Mauritius has offered such a space for artisanal talent. This unique retail concept also guarantees fashion lovers have the opportunity to purchase exclusive and one-of-a-kind goods that they won’t find anywhere else.

All items are a result of Priya’s work in sourcing artisans in India and Asia who are able to mesh their crafts with Imiloa’s designs, and everything you see for sale in-store is a genuine one-off piece. Imiloa never re-stocks or re-makes the same product twice, so customers can always feel special and take pride in what they wear and buy.

The rest of the day is free for us to explore at our leisure.

Day 7 - petit raffray

This morning we attend a rehearsal of the Geet Gawai female-only band of singers and dancers with our hosts Shakti and Maya from My Moris who want to share their passion for Mauritian culture with us.

More than a century ago, about half a million Indians came to Mauritius to work in the sugarcane fields. They brought with them their culture, their Gods and their varied and entertaining musical traditions.

Geet Gawai, is a women-only band, a musical tradition performed for Hindu weddings. They are the perfect occasion to discover the ancestral traditions we inherited from northern India.

The rest of the day is at leisure to explore some more of the north island, or simply relax by the pool on one of the sun loungers.

An early start but a day you definitely won’t forget as we get to see 360° of mesmerizing and magnificent views of almost the whole of Mauritius, on our hike to the summit of Le Pouce mountain, also known as Thumb mountain because of its thumb-shaped peak.  It’s said to be one of the easiest hikes in Mauritius and one of the best things about it is that it’s the least busy climb as the more seasoned hikers tend to brave some of the harder mountains.

At the summit you’ll feel a true sense of acheivment as you drink in the spectacular views that around you. Cameras are definitely a must as you can litrally see for miles and miles!

Day 9 - Port Louis

Today we are in for a treat with a guided historical and cosmopolitan cultural street food tour of Port Louis with our fabulous guide, Shakti.
