Zimbabwe Itinerary*

Day 1 - Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

Welcome to Zimbabwe, known for its wild adventure and immense natural beauty. Once we land at Victoria Falls Airport, a private transfer will be waiting to escort us to our hotel with its spectacular views of buffalo, elephant, hyena and other wildlife and just 3 km from the iconic falls.  Meradith owner and the host will be waiting to greet us and get us settled in.

Then it’s off to our elephant art experience!

Kim, an inspiring woman, and owner of Art of Africa thought of the idea to interact with these gentle giants by painting them while they are in our presence.

We get the chance to not only observe but share time with these magnificent animals, and simply words cannot describe how amazing this is. Easels will be set up in the bush around the Wallow as we await the arrival of the herd, which comes to the pan to drink and cool themselves in the mud…then the fun starts!

After freshening up at the hotel, we head out for a welcome meal in Victoria Falls.

Day 2 - Mana Pools National Park

After breakfast we will be picked up and taken to Victoria Falls Airport, to meet our flight to Mana Pools for our three-night stay at Kanga Bush Camp. On arrival, we’ll be met by Cherish our host who will show us around the camp and discuss the daily program with us. Cherish is a real gem and will make our stay here the best it can possibly be.

The great thing about Kanga Camp it’s situated in a private concession within the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mana Pools National Park. Infamous for their walking safaris, we can experience predator sightings which includes lion and the rare and endangered wild dog. The camp itself overlooks Kanga Pan which is an essential water supply for a multitude of different wildlife and bird species during the dry season. This means that the surrounding wildlife frequently visits the pans for a leisurely drink which just happens to be right in front of the camp! And, because the camp is situated in a private concession there are no other safari vehicles around.

Sur daily experiences include walking safaris, morning and afternoon game drives, the famous armchair safaris in the dry season, and a photographic hide for both amateur and professional photographers to enjoy…

This afternoon we will have our first game safari and although there’s not the big 5 here, we get to experience an almost private viewing of lions, elephants, wild dogs, giraffe, monkeys to name a few.  And as always incomplete African style, as soon as the sun is about to set… it’s sundowner time, whether out in the bush admiring the sunset or in the camp, it’s definitely a special time of day!

Hotel: kanga Bush Camp

Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 3 - Mana Pools National Park

It’s always an early start and maybe a bit chilly but seeing the spectacular sunrises out in the bush is something you will never forget.

Yesterday we will have chosen our days activities, so with cameras and binoculars in hand, we’ll set off for an incredible day ahead.

Hotel:  kanga Bush Camp

Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 4 - Mana Pools National Park

Again today, you decide on the pace.  An early morning game drive, something I would never miss, a leisurely armchair safari by the pool, a walking or sunset safari or maybe like me, you want to do them all!  And of course, where ever you choose to be, sundowners are always being served at that special time!

Hotel:  kanga Bush Camp

Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 5 - Hwange National Park

It’s an early start this morning as we have to get to the airport for our flight to Hwange and our 3-night stay at The Hide Safari Camp.

I love this camp, especially as there’s a popular watering hole just in front of the camp, and the staff are absolutely fabulous.  Shirl made sure that everything we needed was there even before we asked, no one could do enough for us…Hot water bottles for early morning game drives made it even more perfect!

As well as the Big Five, Hwange is home to zebra, giraffes, hippos, cheetahs, wildebeest and over 400 species of birds, so keep your eyes peeled when on safari.

There is no schedule as such, we plan each day the night before but early morning game drives are definitely worth getting up for.  Here we can choose from a range of safaris including a walking safari amongst the big five, after dinner safaris where animals you don’t see in the day come out to play or simply take a lounger by the watering hole and see what decides to greet you!

Hotel: The Hide Safari Camp

Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 6 - Hwange National Park

A day for you to choose the pace.  There are lots on offer throughout the day and mealtimes here are definitely time to get to know the staff and guides who are happy to share some fascinating stories with you.

As the sun begins to set, it’s incredible just to sit and watch the many animals congregating at the water hole and just watching them whilst drinking a gin and tonic…why not!

Hotel: The Hide Safari Camp

Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 7 - Hwange National Park

In Africa, no day is the same because no safari is the same. Each day you will experience something new and exciting and learn something new.  Each guide has their own stories and unique experiences which adds to each day being so special.

This is our last day at the Hide so make sure you have experienced and photographed everything there is on offer.

Hotel: The Hide Safari Camp

Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 8 - Victoria Falls

An early start, but still time to get a quick breakfast before we leave for the main camp in time to meet our guide who will drive us back to 528 Victoria Falls Guest House for another 2 nights.

Brunch is at Zambezi House with our extremely knowledgeable guide Kim and then we will cross over the border into Zamia for our rhino tracking and walking safari.

Jenny owns Livingstone Walking Rhino Safaris and hopefully, she will be joining us on this amazing walk. A lot of the time we will be observing the wildlife but our guide’s main aim is to find the white rhino and track as much of the larger game as possible.

After some refreshments, we will go back to the guest house to freshen up for our dinner cruise on the Zambezi Reflections…and we get to see an amazing sunset over Victoria Falls which really is very spectacular.

Hotel:  528 Victoria Falls

Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 9 - Victoria Falls

This morning we can have a lie-in!

Shopping in Victoria Falls is on the menu.  It’s a really quirky town with a couple of markets and some unique boutique-style shops.  It’s a really laid back town and fun to look around and then maybe stop for a bit of lunch

This afternoon we have a guided tour of the mighty Victoria Falls. It’s a place you have to see in real life to experience the magnificence of it all.  We will be given rain macs to wear but I promise you, we will still get very wet from the fall sprays!

This is our last night! And although there are many tourist things to do, tonight we are going to Three Monkeys Restaurant and although it’s not women-owned, it is the top restaurant in Victoria Falls and has a fun and lively vibe for our farewell evening.

Hotel: 528 Victoria Falls

Meals:  Breakfast & Dinner

Day 10 - Departure Day

Make the most of our last morning surrounded by nature, maybe take a swim or squeeze in some exercise before we are taken to the airport for our onward flight back home…I promise you, Africa will stay with you for weeks to come!

Meals:  Breakfast
